35 Minute Basa Fish


This is probably the easiest recipe that I have found to cook fish, and it is definitely one my favourite. With only 5 minutes of preparation, you can have this delicious meal in the oven. Serve with rice, steamed vegetables and white wine and you will be sure to enjoy.

Now you might be asking yourself, “what is Basa?” It is a relatively new fish to the North American market. Raised mainly in the Mekong River system of Vietnam, it is quickly becoming quite a popular fish due to the mild fish taste of the large, white, boneless fillets. It is also a very inexpensive fish to serve as it grows quite quickly, resulting in lower production costs.   • 1 Basa Fillet per person (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 Orange
  • 1 Red Onion
  • Sea Salt & Pepper to taste


1. Slice orange into 1/4″ pieces and layer them in the bottom of baking dish.

2. Peel and slice red onion in half, then slice into 1/8″ pieces. Break up the slices into pieces with your hands and sprinkle over the orange slices in the baking dish, creating an even layer.


3. Place Basa fillets on top of the bed of onions.


4. Season with sea salt and pepper.


5. Bake in oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes for fresh or 30 minutes for frozen pieces of fish.
