It is time for another video… because who doesn’t love another video?
It is time for another video… because who doesn’t love another video?
The time is 02:54, I just walked in the door from work. I haven’t even taken off my uniform yet, but have had the urge to start writing immediately. The strangest part is that I have no idea what I want to write about. I just know that I need to pull some words out of my head because they are clouding my perceptions of reality.
I was consistently finding a story to share, or some words to post on my blog for about the first week of my 29th year of existence. However, I once again got sidetracked by life and stopped focusing on my priorities. It feels like as soon as one day of writing is missed, it quickly turns into two which becomes a week which becomes so many days that I don’t even remember what happened since the last time I sat down to write.
One of the last posts I made was brought to my attention by a friend. The comment was made of “does anyone actually read your blog?” It caught me off guard because I have never really been driven by the idea of who does or doesn’t read my blog or watch my videos. I do it because I enjoy being creative, and I hope that as I do it more I will be able to create better and better products.
I let the comment discourage me a little. I lost my focus about why I do the things I enjoy doing. I enjoy sitting down and writing a blog post. I love trying to take pieces of video and turn it into a movie. I do these things because I want to do it.
When I don’t post stories, I end up overwhelmed by the many ideas floating around in my head that want a creative outlet, but have been left trapped in my brain. I think I might be rambling in circles because I am tired. I just needed to get my words off my chest.
Don’t forget, we are all a superhero to someone!
Today is officially the first official day of Pride in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In conjunction, REEL Pride is celebrating by hosting the 2015 Best International LGBTTQ* Commercials! They promise that this program will “make you laugh, make you think and maybe pull at your heart strings.”
Tickets are available at the door for $10. There are two shows starting at 7pm or 9pm. The event takes place at the Bandwidth Theatre located at 585 Ellice Avenue (across from the West End Cultural Centre).
You can still reserve your tickets online at http://www.reelpride.org/tickets.
I can’t wait to see you there!
I was treated to yet another day of birthday dinner surprises. The intended restaurant of choice was at Assiniboine Park, but we discovered that the restaurant at the duck pond wasn’t open to the public for dinner service.
After a bit of driving around, we decided to make our way over to Carbone Coal Fired Pizza located at 1580 Taylor Ave, Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is the second location to be opened here in Winnipeg with the original store located downtown.
The staff was friendly and greeted us at the door as we entered. The restaurant was clean and well decorated. Our service was prompt and the menu was very easy to make a quick selection. The pizzas are available in either 12″ or 16″ on traditional or glutton free crusts. They have several menu pizzas or you can build your own.
We decided to try the Calabrese Pizza which features Calabrese Salami, Roasted Red Peppers, Kalamata Olives & Spicy Eggplant. The pizza was incredibly delicious and I definitely got to eat more than my half (it was my birthday dinner after all, right?). The flavours provided by the coal oven are incomparable.
Based on our visit, I am certainly looking forward to trying more of this menu on a future visit. I would give Carbone Coal Fired Pizza a rating of 4 super stars out of 5.
Day two of being 29 was equally relaxing as the first. There was also a lot of recovery that happened from the bonfire. It was apparently way more fun than I remembered.
I was supposed to do coffee with a friend who forgot to write our “date” down in his calendar. As a result, I rolled over and went back to sleep after not receiving a confirmation text message that he was awake.
It ended up being a blessing in disguise to be able to lounge around and not have to take on the responsibility of getting out of bed before noon. I didn’t do anything until mid-afternoon at which point I had to get ready to go meet my family for the annual birthday dinner.
It was a great evening sharing dinner at Montana’s. I even earned a $20 gift card from them after our server made an error on our bill that I didn’t notice until after we had paid. The food was delicious and the time shared with my family was priceless as always.
My youngest foster brother then invited me to join them at his lacrosse game. We all piled into the truck and headed off to Fort Richmond. It was amusing trying to give my parents, who live outside of the city on a farm, instructions on how to drive in the city on multi-laned roads that add and delete lanes without much notice.
We ended up taking a bit of a scenic tour around the University of Manitoba since my instructions weren’t clear enough about which lane my dad needed to be in. The important part is we made it to the arena without getting into an accident.
I only stayed through the first period of the game since I was tired from being old and staying out the night before past 10pm. I got to see my brother score a goal before I departed, so that was pretty cool. The score was 2-0 when I left so I’m assuming they won.
So far I have had two quality days as a 29 year old. If things keep up like this, it is going to be an awesome year. Stay tuned for more adventures.
Yesterday, I celebrated my 29th birthday. My poor phone was exploding with messages from all my wonderful friends posting greetings on my Facebook wall. I am also on holidays from work right now which made it the perfect opportunity to celebrate exactly how I wanted.
I woke up and was taken by my roomie to get my free birthday coffee from Starbucks and cake pops for breakfast. I always love coffee, especially when it is free. We came home and I had the opportunity to post my birthday video which if you missed it is here.
Then I was told by my roomie that I needed to be in the car by 11:30am because we were going for lunch, but she wasn’t telling me where we were going. So I jumped into the shower at 11:33am to get ready to go for lunch (because I’m super good at showing up on time like that). I managed to get ready in 10 minutes and we headed down to the car and hit the highway.
So after about 120 million annoying wrong guesses of where we were going, I guessed correctly that we were going to the Half Moon Drive In located about 20 minutes north of Winnipeg near Lockport. It was totally worth the drive, lunch was delicious. It was a super fun surprise and I got to meet her brother and his wife for the very first time. We also got to share lunch with another friend from work.
We came home feeling incredibly stuffed and had nap time. I think that naps are officially one of my favourite activities in the world. The nap lasted about two hours before we had to wake up, have a quick dinner, and get back into the car.
We headed over to my coworkers home to have some snacks and s’mores. For those of you that haven’t had a s’more, it is a marshmallow that you roast on the fire and then squish it between two graham crackers with a piece of chocolate. It is messy and delicious. I have to give my friend C a kudos for finding biscuits that had chocolate already on them so legit got just the right amount of chocolate to marshmallow to cookie.
Then I was surprised with a chocolate cheesecake for my birthday. It was super yummy and I for sure feel 100lbs fatter today after only one piece.
I am still planning on doing something on a bigger scale to celebrate with all my friends, but I just wanted a relaxing birthday celebration on my actual birthday since it was my first full day of holidays.
Thank you to everyone for being a part of making my birthday just a little bit more special. Now I am going to go take my afternoon nap because that is totally becoming a thing.
Today is a really exciting day for me. I am celebrating the first day of the start of the last year in my 20’s… aka I just turned 29. I am pretty excited about starting another year and have set some new goals for myself.
I wanted to start this year by looking back at some of the crazy memories we have made over the last year. It has been a lot of fun and I wanted to share them with all of you.
